A full day trip to Green Island occupied us on Friday. We spent free time wandering Green Island, swimming, viewing the coral from the beach and in the glass bottom boat.

On the ferry.                                                 Andrea & Palin enjoying the view.

On Saturday we took the Kuranda Scenic Rail, and enjoyed a beautiful journey to Kuranda, where we spent the day shopping and playing tourist.

On Sunday, we flew to Longreach to a B-B-Q dinner at the hotel.

Monday was occupied with a tour of the town, a visit to the Longreach School of Distance Education (a real eye opener), then on to the Qantas Museum. In the evening we took a Sunset Drovers’ cruise and dinner on the bank of the river with entertainment by Smithy’s Live Outback Show.

Tuesday was a busy day, starting with a tour of a huge outback station, guided by the lady of the station. A huge typical morning tea was followed by the opportunity to cuddle a joey kangaroo, much to the surprise and delight of all. In the afternoon we visited the famed Longreach Stockman’s Hall of Fame, followed by an Outback Show and dinner in the Cattleman’s Restaurant.

An early start on Wednesday saw us on the road to Winton, a very old outback town with interesting sights. Lunch at the Waltzing Matilda Restaurant followed by a visit to the dinosaur diggings, where they have excavated large quantities of dinosaur bones. Dinner with the R C of Longreach, a fun night.

Thursday, our last day, town tour, shopping, visit to the Outback Pics Gallery.

A quick final lunch, then off to Sydney.

As usual, a great bunch of cooperative ITHFers.
